When you are sad

Put on makeup –
more than you normally would.
Eyeshadow, especially, will make you feel special
and pretty. So that you can look at yourself
and say:
I’m more than okay.
I can look good
even if my insides are collapsing.

Clean your house.
Your life may be a mess
and things may not be
as you wish –
but your house is neat and tidy.
The way you thought it always would be
when you were a child.

Be nice to other people.
It’s not their fault you are sad –
or, if it is
feel better in the fact
that you are the bigger person.

Don’t:
imagine what life could be like
picture yourself running away
dream of a different version of you.

There is only you
There is only this
This is only now

Make what you can of it.

“So far you have survived 100% of your toughest days.”

“You’re doing great.”
